Hinderwel's Beth Mead takes on the Cardiff defence in Sunderland's 2-0 win

BETH Mead helped Sunderland ladies establish a three-point lead at the top of the FA Women’s Premier League by scoring in Sunday’s 2-0 win over Cardiff City.

Mead’s first half strike at a windswept Academy of Light came in the 33rd minute when she was released by a delightful through ball and the young striker turned her marker.

Although her shot was parried by Rhian Nokes, she was first to react to poke the ball home.

Steph Bannon’s free-kick late on secured the points for the Black Cats, as the ladies leave Leeds trailing in their wake.
