England footballer Beth Mead is looking forward to an action-packed season.

The 18-year-old, from Hinderwell, has just spent six days training with the England under 23s squad in La Manga, Spain and is hoping to be called up for a tournament, also in La Manga, in March. The elite round of the Europeans is in April and if England qualify, the finals take place in Norway in July.

England also have the under 20 World Cup in Canada to look forward to so Beth is hoping she is in contention for a place in that squad.

Mead was on the scoresheet at the weekend for her club side, Sunderland ladies, who won their first pre-season , 7-1 away to Hamilton.

Sunderland play Oxford LFC on February 9 in the FA Cup at their home ground, the Hetton Centre.

The FA Women’s Super League season starts in April.

Mead, a former Whitby Community College student, was the leading scorer last season in the Women’s Premier National Division.
