Whitby Community College student Beth Mead has been selected for a three-day England U19 football training camp which takes place next week.

England coach, Mo Marley, has named a 26-player training squad, as preparation begins for this summer’s Euro finals in Wales in August.

The 18-year-old, who plays for FA Women’s Premier League champions Sunderland finished this past campaign as top scorer for the second season in succession and will join the rest of the squad at St George’s Park, from Monday to Thursday next week.

Speaking to the Whitby Gazette this week, Beth, who lives in Hinderwell, said her latest call-up for England was an unbelievable feeling and “a step closer to my dream.”

She said: “I love representing my country – it gives me a buzz that nothing else can touch.

“All my problems fade away and I just play the game I love.

“I make it all sound wonderful but it takes a lot of dedication and hard work to get there but it most definitely is worth it.

“It is perfect to end the season off.”

“I’d like to say I could have a rest but my week’s holiday is all I’m getting.”
