FYLINGDALES sent a strong side over to West Riding Reserves as their first team again had no game.
West Riding Reserves were also looking strong, with a few of their first team squad playing.
Fylingdales started well with midfielder Dave Welham pulling the strings in midfield. It was not long before they took the lead when speedy striker Barry Heyes caught the defence flatfooted, latching onto a great pass from Dylan Goldsmith.
Although the home keeper made a good stop, Heyes slotted the rebound away into the corner for a 1-0 lead.
Just before half-time, the home side drew level from the spot when big Dave Bosworth was harshly judged to have fouled in the area to level the scores.
In the second half, Dales introduced youngster Dan Hoggarth, playing his first senior game for the Dales after coming through the club’s junior training program run by Neil Brearly and was soon in the action, playing well on the wing.
The Dales took the lead again when Dave Welham beat two players and scored a cracking goal from just outside the box.
The home side put the Dales under pressure for the last quarter and only some good work from centre pairing of Jake Faichney and Dave Bosworth kept them at bay but with two minutes to go, the home side were awarded another penalty which they converted despite the best efforts of keeper Mike Purves.
Overall it was a good performance from the reserve side and it was especially rewarding to see some of the younger players come into the game and play some impressive football and the whole squad playing as team.
Tomorrow, the Reserves take on old foes Whitby Town supporters’ club, weather permitting. Any youngsters in the Fylingdales, Hawsker, Stainsacre area wishing to go to junior football training on Wednesday nights, 6.30pm, at Fyling Hall School sports hall, are welcome.
