FYLINGDALES FC were left wishing they’d literally turned back the clock when two of their best players slept in ahead of the McCain Cup semi-final against Itis it is at Ayton on Sunday.
Manager Tommy Pearson had picked his strongest side but was forced to reshuffle after the pair had failed to put their clocks forward to BST.
Itis itis started well but Fylingdales defended well with Andy Raw mopping up any loose balls at the back.
But the Scarborough side took the lead when a free-kick was taken before the Dales wall had formed and the ball flew into the top corner.
Dales came straight back at their opposition when Jake Faichney put Chris Shardlow through to level.
Dales were denied a goal shortly after when Faichney headed home only for the goal to be disallowed.
The Robin Hood’s Bay side started sloppily in the second half, allowing it is it is to take a quick corner that found one of two unmarked players in the Dales box to score.
Dales had several chances to equilise soon after but luck and decisions were just not going their way.
Itis itis scored two more goals in the last 10 minutes, both looking close to offside as Dales pressed forward to put the game out of Dales reach and go through to the final.
All the Dales team deserve credit for battling the whole 90 minutes against probably one of the best sides they have played all season. This Sunday Dales are at home to Cayton, kick-off 10.30am.
