WIVES and girlfriends of Sunday League football team Fylingdales FC are going to raise funds by posing for a 2012 calendar.
Although the exact nature of the shots are being kept under wraps, the WAGS - a footballing term short for wives and girlfriends - have a variety of poses in mind on the pitch, in the changing rooms and the pub.
The WAGS will embark on the photoshoot this weekend in various locations around the village, with photographers Lou Hughes and Sue Webster challenged with the task of capturing the girls in a number of footballing themes.
Up to 400 copies of the calendar are going to be produced and the girls are hoping to have it printed within the next fortnight.
Calendars will then go on sale around Robin Hood’s Bay, Fylingthorpe and possibly in Whitby too, with money raised from the venture being ploughed back into the football club, with a view towards helping the new youth section.
One of the WAGS, Becky Stubbing, said the calendar - which businesses are paying to advertise in - is open to contributions from any women in ‘Bay and Fylingthorpe who wish to help raise money for the club which, in one year, has provided superb community spirit locally.
“The coverage provided by the Whitby Gazette over the past year has been a crucial element of team high morale and spirits,” she said.
“We feel this is a way the women of Robin Hood’s Bay can really support and get behind the lads.”
Fylingdales FC, now in their second season, compete in the Scarborough and District Sunday League, having won promotion in their maiden season.
