AFTER two months and a lot of snow without a game at home, Fylingdales faced the stern opposition against Sunday League leaders Victoria in the McCain Cup.
Team manager was back from his scouting mission to take control of the Dales with his new right hand man John Mallette close by.
FFC lined up with a strong team with number one, Neil Brearley playing through the pain of his shoulder injury to guard the net.
FFC started strong with some excellent passing heaping pressure on the Scarborough team.
Hot shot Jake Faichney broke the deadlock. After continually leaving the Victoria defence in tatters, he scored from close range aafter a goalmouth scramble.
Jake followed this with a wonderstrike close after into the bottom corner.
Victoria tried to answer back and forced two goal-line clearances from man of the match Andrew Heseltine, but it was in-form FFC who got the third goal of the game when Joe Faichney, playing on the right and cutting in, ignored Paddy Chandler in a great position to rifle an excellent shot home from a tight angle.
Dales went into the break with a rare clean sheet. The second half continued with good football from both sides but FFC were motivated not to give another lead away, defending strongly.
Victoria did get a goal when a corner managed to find its way into the net but unlike other weeks this, did not lead to a collapse.
A great team performance against worthy opposition takes ‘Dales into the next round of the cup.
On Sunday (30 Jan), FFC play away on pitch nine at Oliver’s Mount against bottom of the league Weaponess. All supporters welcome.
