The Eskvale and Cleveland Football League would like to invite applications from teams for the forthcoming 2013/14 season.
The league covers a wide area including Whitby across to Redcar and over to Stokesley, covering East Cleveland and the moors.
Secretary Luke Hodgson is leading the appeal for fresh teams.
“The league is well established and well run by dedicated officials and management committee members,” he told the Whitby Gazette.
“The league has suffered in recent seasons due to a reduction in numbers but is determined to return to its former glories by expanding and attracting more teams in the hope of making the league stronger and more competitive.
“For a league covering the area that it does, it is disappointing that we no longer have teams from Redcar, Marske, Saltburn, Guisborough or Whitby town as we have had teams from these places in the past.
“The Eskvale and Cleveland League is a viable option and alternative to other leagues and would provide a stepping stone and platform for some junior clubs before they enter the more competitive leagues.”
Esk Valley side Lealholm came within a whisker of landing the league title this past season, but were defeated by Lingdale United - who also won all the cups - in their final game, having to be content with second place after sitting in pole position for most of the season.
Other Whitby area sides who compete in the league are Goldsborough, Hinderwell and Staithes Athletic.
