AFTER two good cup wins, Fishburn Park under 13s were back in league action.
They couldn’t have got off to a worse start when a mix-up at the back led to Cayton getting a goal in the second minute.
Fishburn regrouped and the centre midfield partnership of Owen Grant and Chris Hurworth led the charge.
It only took five minutes before the hard work was rewarded when Grant played an excellent ball over the top of the defence into the path of Jack Kipling. Kipling had a look up and took one touch before chipping the ball over the top of the keeper into the net.
With the wind against them, Fishburn were under a lot of pressure but some solid defending, most notably a last-ditch tackle from Jack Kelly kept the score level.
On 28 minutes, Fishburn took the lead. This time Hurworth was the provider when he sent a great ball towards Grant.
Grant controlled the ball well on the turn and also chipped the keeper to give Fishburn the lead.
From this the confidence was high and more goals could have been added after some mix-ups in the Cayton defense, yet the final shot seemed to be missing.
The second half became a heated affair with tackles flying in from Cayton who were looking to get back into the game.
Although Fishburn had the wind in their favour they struggled to take advantage and again were found lacking quality in the final third.
Defensively they stayed strong with Nathan Foster and Ryan Ackers forming a solid partnership at the back, and when the ball got past them, Kieran Purvis made some excellent saves.
Man of the match: Kieran Purvis – a very confident display with some terrific saves in both halves.
