Fishburn Park Ladies 4
With a few changes to the squad including a debut for 16-year-old Ellie Gordon, Fishburn were hoping to book their place in the next round.
A bright start from Park saw them test the keeper many times within the first 10 minutes, however some fine saves and the woodwork kept the scores level.
It was only a matter of time before Fishburn’s attacking play led to a goal. Centre Midfielder, Deborah Reddy sent a superb ball out wide from the centre circle for Lou Middlesmas to run onto.
Middlemas took the ball in her stride, skipping past the defender to strike the ball to the far post to open the scoring. The half was dominated by Fishburn, though despite more attempts failed to extend their lead. Huntington had the chance to level the scores just before the break when a neat ball over the Fishburn defence was met by their striker; keeper Denise Reddy closed down quickly making a vital save.
An inspirational half-time chat led to more creativity from the Fishburn midfield.
Five minutes into the second half saw some quick passing on the left hand side of the pitch,
Kirsty Dixon played a perfect ball into Selina Marsay’s feet who took on the Huntington defence, shooting low and hard to make it 2-0 for a great individual goal.
Middlemas and Reddy combined again on the left flank, Middlemas running down the wing to the touchline to cross the ball into the box right into Sam Burrow’s feet who tapped in to make it 3-0 with 70 minutes on the clock.
With 10 minutes to go, Middlesmas made yet another run down the wing, this time crossing to Lois Harkin.
Harkin’s shot hit the defender on the line but the rebound fell kindly for Burrows who fired the ball into the top of the net.
This was a fantastic team performance which gives Fishburn ladies a well-earned place in the semi-final of the cup.
Player of the match: Louise Middlemas.
