Fishburn Park under 16s started this local derby magnificently, taking the game to hosts Goldsborough, knocking the ball around nicely and finding plenty of room down the flanks.

Within five minutes they were ahead, Whitehead’s crunching tackle released the ball and a swift pass out wide by Stonehouse found Idle in acres.

He carried before a superb cross found Hewison who had run 50 yards to get in the box and an excellent header was smashed into the back of the net.

B Pike made an excellent run and his cross at the byline eluded everyone in the box and was eventually cleared.

The second goal was a mistake by the home keeper. A back pass and clearance kick hardly got off the ground, it fell nicely to the predatory Graham who ran the ball back towards goal before coolly slotting home into the bottom corner.

Beaver and Stokoe combined well to set S Pike away but he was cynically fouled as he turned the last defender.

The third goal was a superb passing move, Shrimpton followed by a nice combination of passing by the Pike brothers before Hewison’s incisive pass set Idle away behind the defensive line.

He outsprinted everyone and an arrow-like finish from a tight angle beat the keeper at the far post for a lovely goal. Purves was strong in the air and stand-in keeper Clarkson was excellent at coming off his line to clear up the long balls.

The fourth goal was a kick from the keeper from the edge of his box; S Pike controlled the ball well before volleying from all of 40 yards to lob the keeper as he tried desperately to get back on his line.

A nicely whipped in corner by Purves was headed wide by Stokoe and the half finished 4-0.

Clarkson came out of goal for Hewison for the second half but Fishburn took their foot off the gas.

B Pike played in Clarkson whose cracking shot fizzed over the bar. Beaver played in Whitehead and his charged down shot fell nicely to Shrimpton but his left foot shot went high and left.

Shrimpton had another opportunity but the shot which was well saved.

Stonehouse made a lovely run but his cutback pass to Graham was nicked away as he was just about to pull the trigger. No more goals were added and the game fizzled out towards the end.

Fishburn man of the match: Spencer Hewison – hard tackling, neat passing midfield display and a fantastic header to get the scoreboard ticking over.
