LYTHE School finally got their hands on the Straw Cup a year after the agony of finishing as runners-up.
A hat-trick from Soni Fergus ensured Lythe saw off the challenge of Ruswarp School in an excellent game of football.
Last season, Lythe reached the final but were pipped in the final seconds of the game by East Whitby so they are delighted with this year’s result.
Headteacher Andrea Foord said she was extremely pleased with all the achievements that Lythe School football team had made this year, including finishing runners-up of the final of the York CPP Challenge Cup, winners of the penalty shoot-out at the Turnbull and the winners of the Straw Cup.
They will also take part in the Ryedale and district finals in July.
The young footballers are Arnie Wright, James Turbull, Harry Clennan, Sam Hare, Mateo Cruz, Tom Welford (team coach), Harry Coates, Soni Fergus (captain), Luke Ward-Hepburn and William Donoghue.
