WHITBY football fans are being invited to watch a galaxy of ex-Middlesbrough stars and back a good cause in the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation charity match next month.
The game, at the Championship side’s Riverside Stadium, will see the likes of one-time Spanish international Gaizka Mendieta, Craig Hignett, Bernie Slaven and John Hendrie showing off their silky skills.
It is part of a campaign to raise as much money as possible for what is a worthy cause that benefits cancer sufferers right across the north east.
The stadium will also play host to various other family activities, as well as a charity auction and a night do.
Whitby-based Middlesbrough fan Paul Stevenson, who his helping to promote the match, said: “It should be a great occasion for all the family and will, ultimately, raise a lot of money for a truly worthy cause.
“There are plenty of ‘Boro fans in the Whitby area and I would like to think this promotion via the Whitby Gazette would be a great way of getting a few more people from the town to make the trip through.”
Any businesses wishing to donate prizes for a charity auction at the event can email firstname.lastname@example.org or call Paul on 07734 112929.
The match is on Friday 20 May and kicks off at 8pm, with doors open at 7pm.
