ONE of the stars of Fylingdales Football Club’s first season in the Sunday league has been snapped up by Whitby Town FC.
The Blues have kept a close eye on the blossoming Fylingdales FC this season and snapped up a bargain in Robin Hoods Bay local hero Jake Faichney.
Faichney, 22, scored an immense 53 goals for FFC last season, more than international superstar Lionel Messi, and played every minute of Dales’ games in 2010/2011 - despite only starting to play football again in 2010.
He trained with Whitby Town for the second half of last season and put pen to paper at the end of March, eventually making his debut in Whitby’s last game of the season against Stocksbridge.
Faichney was brought on after 73 minutes and put in a great performance narrowly missing out on equalising for Town when his half volley was tipped onto the crossbar by the visiting keeper.
Fylingdales FC team captain Paddy Chandler told the Gazette: “It shows the quality coming through at FFC. Jake is a natural talent and a quick learner, he has picked up a lot from shooting coach Mark Brennan, and really been an example to all him team mates throughout”.
Town are due to play a pre season friendly against the Dales’ in the summer further cementing the bond between the two clubs.
