Fabulous Fergus fires five

AFTER a month off for the Christmas break and adverse weather, Fishburn Park under 11s started the new year as they finished last with a comfortable win against Billingham Town.

Park, now with eight straight league wins, are five points clear at the top of the league with games in hand on all their rivals.

With a driving wind behind them, Park camped out in the visitors’ half for most of the first half as there was a string of chances created.

Park were off the mark when Hambley drilled in a low cross for Fergus to sidefoot over the keeper for 1-0.

And it was Fergus who went on to a rich scoring streak as he scored a further three goals during the half to make it 4-0 at half-time.

There were further good efforts during the half with Clennan, Hansell and Urban hitting decent long range efforts.

The second half was always going to be a test with such a fierce gale blowing but the Park defence were strong and coped admirably.

And indeed it was still Park on the front foot early in the half with a couple of goals ruled out for offside.

The visitors got themselves a lifeline when a ball down the middle of the pitch was dispatched well for 4-1, but Park responded again with Fergus racing clear to score his fifth of the game.

Billingham again replied but the bulk of the attacks were still from Park against the wind and Hambley was unlucky with a fierce right foot drive which whistled over the top corner.

Horne also hit the bar after Fergus cleverly back heeled a lovely pass to him.

A very solid display in tricky conditions.
