Hinderwell hotshot Beth Mead has been named England’s U19 squad for the UEFA European Championship Finals held in Wales later this month.
England coach, Mo Marley, this week selected her 18 player squad who will face France on Monday August 19, Wales on Thursday 22 and Denmark on Sunday 25.
The top two nations in each group go into the semi-finals on August 28, with the final three days later at Llanelli’s Parc y Scarlets.
Eighteen-year-old Beth, who picked up the manager’s player of the season and top goalscorer in the Premier League, said: “I’ve worked so hard and glad I’ve got this opportunity.
“I just need to get on the pitch and show people what I can do.”
It is the icing on the cake another impressive season for the former Whitby Community College student who fired in 30 goals for the title-winning Black Cats in the FA Women’s Premier League.
Sunderland ladies’ manager Mick Mulhern was equally impressed: “Beth’s selection just goes to show that hard work pays off.
“England have a lot of good forwards in that age group and I’m sure she can’t wait for the first game.”
Beth’s Sunderland team-mates, forward Keira Ramshaw and Becky Bass who has recently joined from Leeds United, are both on standby.
Beth’s proud father Richard Tweeted this week: “Big congrats to @bmeado9 for her call up to england u19’s for the euro finals #proudfamily”
