FYLINGDALES Football Club’s wives and girlfriends (WAGs) held a strip presentation with a difference - their Calendar Girls antics raised almost £1,600 for the team.

The girls contrived a series of football-related photos for the 2012 calendar which they kept mainly under wraps before the calendar was unveiled before Christmas.

A WAGs celebration evening at club sponsors The Bay Hotel was held to hand over the cheque to club secretary Tom Chandler.

The night itself raised £70 but the cheque for the calendars was for £1,583.

All photographers all given a bouquet of flowers on the night.

Demi Clarkson, a leading WAG, said: “It’s been great fun getting all the girls together and raising some cash.

“We’ve all put a lot of hard work into this but we’ve had the time of our lives and we have loads of ideas to do it even better next year.”

FFC Captain Paddy Chandler said “You just can’t fault these WAGS - turns out they have the brains and the beauty after all.

“They have put all the lads’ fund-raising in the shadows and really raised the bar.

“I know I speak for the whole team when I sincerely thank everybody involved for all their hard work and good looks.”

Club chairman John Cuffling said: “This is the biggest amount raised for the football club so far and we would like to thank the FFC ladies for all their efforts.

“We will be using the money to build on the hard work already begun maintaining and sustaining a village football club and hope to focus on further developing the up-and-coming FFC youth academy.”

Talented local photographers Sue Webster, Hannah Webster and Lou Hughes who exhibit in the area.

The people involved in organising and selling the calendars were Linda Whinspear and Winnie and Colin Armstrong, who persuaded residents to buy one. Calendars we also sold at Station Road stores and Thorpe Stores.

Lou Parker and Suzy Purves were also involved in organising and planning. Local businesses were signed up to raise the initial costs and were mentioned on the calendar too.
