Salford City visit the Turnbull Ground on Wednesday evening for an FA Cup first qualifying round replay.

Whitby Town claimed a 1-1 draw from Saturday’s trip to the Ammies’ Moor Lane base, Adam Gell netting the Blues’ goal on 39 minutes after Mikey Roberts’ penalty kick had been saved.

The Seasiders held on to their lead until just after the hour mark when full-back Dom Smalley followed up to slot in from close range following Shane Bland’s save from a ferocious Luke Giverin strike.

Both sides had chances to win the game in the final quarter, and Salford even had a late effort disallowed for offside, but there were no more goals, meaning that the two teams must do it all over again on Wednesday, 7.45pm kick-off.

Reflecting on Saturday’s draw, Town boss Darren Williams said: “We started well but I still feel we have more to give.

“We had some good chances, but chose not to shoot early enough.

“We rode our luck a little, but finished the game off well.

“It was a good open game of football.”
