WHITBY Community College’s Beth Mead netted a double as her Sunderland side brushed aside Keynsham Town Ladies to march confidently into the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.
Sunderland started brightly and took the lead in the third minute when 16-year-old Mead was upended inside the area and Kelly McDougall stepped up to slot home from the penalty spot.
The black Cats doubled their lead before Mead herself got on the scoresheet when, from a pinpoint cross, she got in between the Southern League side’s defenders and keeper to slot home.
Although Keynsham pulled a goal back prior to the interval, Sunderland wrapped up the game when a rebound fell nicely for Mead to score her second before the Wearsiders killed the game off in the 87th minute.
The Black Cats now play Birmingham away in the last eight.
