HINDERWELL’s England football international Beth Mead was at the Whitby and District Astroturf pitch to receive some funding and help launch the new FA Just Play Women’s football scheme.

Beth received £100 from the Scarborough and District Sports Council’s sports Grants Scheme towards the cost of equipment and travel to training sessions in Sunderland.

Matt Hewison, who presented the cheque on behalf of the SDSC, said: “We have provided financial assistance to Beth before and it is just really pleasing to see her development as a football player at the highest level.

“Although the amount is relatively small, I think Beth is going to put it towards her new boots, which she certainly put to good use last season and also at the start of this.”

Beth also took part in the first session of the FA Just Play Women’s scheme, that is held at the facility on a Wednesday evening from 7pm to 8pm.

Matt added: “It is great that Beth is involved in the scheme, which is just a general kickabout session for anyone that fancies having a game of football.

“The ultimate aim of the session is to hopefully develop a women’s team in Whitby, but we will see how we get on.

“The session also runs alongside the Ultimate Soccer School’s under 16 girls’ session, so mothers can bring their daughters to that session and have a kickabout themselves if they wish to.”
