FISHBURN Park under 12s extended their unbeaten start to the season on Sunday with a superb performance against a very good Normanby side.
After last week’s long ball display, Park got back to playing proper football and with the home team also looking to play good football it made for an entertaining game.
Normanby had the upper hand in the early exchanges with some penetrating runs down the right causing Park problems and there could be no complaints when Park went 1-0 down.
With the home team continuing to press, a change in the defensive line was made and this seemed to galvanise the team. From then, Park took a foothold in the match.
Gibson and Hambley combined brilliantly down the left and when the ball was moved on to Swales his ball on to Bannister was finished left foot for 1-1. Park were on top and when they were awarded a free-kick 25 yards out, Ward-Hepburn stepped up to fire a cracker high into the top corner for 2-1.
In the second half, Normanby again came at Park strongly but the defence and midfield stood firm, keeping shots to a minimum.
They did equalise though when a harsh handball was given and much like the first half, their player cracked the free-kick into the roof of the net, leaving Humble no chance.
Park have shown already this season a fantastic team spirit and work ethic, and this shone for the rest of the game as they pushed forward with some excellent play.
Park had corners and crosses blocked and a couple of goalmouth clearances too, but Bannister grabbed his second from close range after Swales had bundled his way into the box for 3-2, before playing Swales in for a deserved goal to seal the points.
Man of the match: Shane Bannister – aside from the two goals, also played in some intelligent passes.
