Fisherlads' Coronation glory

COMPETITION was fierce in The Coronation Cup, the second set of races of the rowing season.

First race away was the men’s over 30s crew where S Myers’ Friendship crew held off the challenge of J Morrison’s Fisherlads crew with S Grant’s crew third for the Friendship.

The men’s novice saw a victory for L Clarkson’s Friendship crew with J Henshaw’s crew finishing second for the Fisherlads and S Anderson’s crew third for the Friendship.

The first Fisherlads win of the day came in the ladies junior when Y Spencer’s crew finished ahead of K Betts’ Friendship crew with H Dowson’s crew third for the Fisherlads.

The blues also won the men’s junior with R Braithwaite’s crew.

And L Clarkson’s red crew passed C Hewison’s Fisherlads crew in the harbour to claim second place.

The Friendship got back to winning ways in the ladies senior when V Walker’s crew finished ahead of Y Spencer’s Fisherlads crew.

C Locker’s crew finished third for the Friendship securing the ladies trophy for the reds.

The scores in the men’s trophy were all square going into the final race, the men’s senior.

J Morrison’s crew secured victory for the Fisherlads from A Young’s Friendship crew with A Wilson’s crew third for the Fisherlads.

Friendship president Mike Brown presented the trophies to the winning crews.

Starter boat and course clearance boats were provided by Alan Trueman and Rob Parkin.
