Farthing suffers new injury blow
WHITBY Town's Danny Farthing suffered a massive scare when he thought he had ruptured the same knee ligament which has kept him sidelined for the past year.
Classy centre back Farthing felt a pain in his knee while playing for Tadcaster Albion on a poor pitch in a Northern Counties Eastern League game on Saturday.
At first it was feared to be a reoccurrence of the cruciate ligament damage in his right knee – sustained against Fleetwood Town last March – but although it was the same knee, the 25-year-old had jarred it instead.
However, the injury is a massive blow to Farthing's hopes of a league comeback this season.
Joint boss Phil Brumwell said: "I spoke to Danny and he's devastated as it looked like he was on his way back and thought he had done it again.
"We need to keep an eye on him and wrap him in cotton wool.
"The knee is a lot weaker than before. It was maybe a bit optimistic to get him back this season but he was trying to get games under his belt to get his match fitness up.
"It is a big blow if he is missing for another couple of weeks.
"As long as it is not the same injury – that was our biggest worry and let's hope he stays positive. He is still gutted because it is two steps forward, two steps back but we're massively relieved it's not the same problem.
"We are writing off this season and taking it easy with him."
Farthing had been playing for Tadcaster Albion as part of his recuperation and his injury was one of three suffered by Albion against Worsbrough Bridge.
They had three injuries during the first half with Farthing being one of them and finished with 10 men as they only had two subs.
Farthing has played just once for Whitby this season – in last Tuesday's North Riding Senior Cup tie with Middlesbrough.
