There was a good response from local youngsters when Whitby Cricket Club held a coaching programme at the Turnbull Ground, with 51 places taken over the course of three days.
Head coach Mike Stones was “very pleased” with the turnout.
“We have had a great three days of cricket and all the youngsters have had lots of fun in addition to improving their skills at the game,” he said.
“This was part of the Enjoy Cricket scheme organised under the banner of Yorkshire County Cricket Club.
“It is hoped further such courses will take place in the future as junior cricket becomes a strong part of the summer holiday programme of activities, following up on Whitby’s regular junior coaching night on Fridays.
“It was indeed a special day on Friday as the club received a visit from former Yorkshire and England cricketer, Richard Hutton, who was delighted to see the young local cricketers in action.
“He was able to meet John Hutton (no relation) and inspect the framed scorecard showing that his father, the famous England cricket captain, Sir Leonard Hutton, once scored a century on the Turnbull Ground.”
