Dixon beats club rival in final

THE North Yorkshire Moors League President's Cup Individual Competition was held at Egton Bridge last Saturday.

It was the first time in three years the event was being played after the last two were washed out.

Despite the torrential rain on the Friday, the pitches were in good condition and a decent entry of around 30 players took part.

The early rounds saw world champion Mike Mendelsohn (-3) scrape past Hawsker's Dave Tindall (+10) 21-19, while Paul Dixon saw off Ian Carr and Paul Mendelsohn in two good games.

In the semi-finals, Paul Dixon (-3) beat Ugthorpe's Ned White (scr) 21-12 and Mike Mendelsohn (-3) defeated Charlie Woodward (+12) 21-15.

The final, an all-Fylingthorpe affair, produced some terrific play from both players but it was Dixon who this time got the better of his rival to win 21-16.

The prizes and trophy were presented by league president John White.
