Dancing on ice Esk-style
THE past fortnight's wintry weather brought back memories of the time the River Esk froze over for Whitby Gazette reader Kitty Hunton of Goathland.
Kitty is pictured left and below enjoying a leisurely ice skate on the frozen river with her husband Edgar Hunton and Frank Robinson.
"I remember a man on a motorbike who went all the way along the river to Sleights," she said.
The pictures were taken in 1947.
The recent cold snap has seen several inches of snow on the moors and temperatures at night have plunged several degrees below zero.
