Cross country quartet to represent county
Sam Fussey competes for Whitby Community College
A WARM Whitby welcome was given to junior cross country runners from the whole of North Yorkshire who attended the county event at Caedmon School.
Pete Lamb from Graham School in Scarborough had the onerous task of organising the event but he was given great support from staff at all three Whitby secondary schools.
Jo Young and Shaun Hopper at Caedmon hosted the event and Julie Mastrolonardo from Whitby Community College and Anne-Marie Scales from Eskdale did much organising on the day.
It turned out to be a real Whitby team effort with staff and sports leaders doing a tremendous job to make sure the event ran smoothly.
Whitby Community College was represented by Maria Mastrolonardo, Olivia Cockerill , Ellie Wright, Charity Swales, Shane Hicks, Callum Booth, Sam Fussey, Phil Hartas, Jem Dring, Ben Lewis, Becky Mills, Grace Rodgers, Dani Braithwaite, Dougie Elias and Ryan Braithwaite.

Pete Woolley said: “It was an extremely cold Saturday morning with squally showers coming and going, yet we still managed to get 17 our young sports leaders to attend as marshals.
“If they hadn’t given up their Saturday morning we could not have run the event as successfully and all the schools competing are extremely grateful to them.”
Shane Hicks, Dougie Elias, Phil Hartas, Grace Rodgers and Becky Mills now go on to represent North Yorkshire against Cumbria, Cleveland, Durham and Northumberland. Grace Rodgers should also be commended on qualifying for the English Schools event.
