Cricketers tormented by midges

FYLINGDALES and Lockton cricketers battled valiantly for 20 overs while thousands of midges invaded the pitch.

The players and scorers carried on bravely while everyone else took shelter in the changing rooms.

Despite an hour of torment, the match was played to a nail-biting conclusion.

Lockton batted first, with J Moxon scoring 44 and M Bell 26 while Andy Fewster took 5-37 for Fylingdales.

The hosts' reply began badly and after 14 overs, they were struggling badly on 30/7.

John Fewster and Ben Hogarth steadied things and took the score to 90 when Ben was out for 23.

The next batsman went for a duck which brought John Tunaley to the crease with six overs left.

The score crept upwards with Fylingdales needing three from the last ball to win, but they managed two to leave the match tied. John Fewster finished on 52 not out.
