Cricketer strikes maiden century for village side

ANOTHER bright young cricketer at Fryup, Ben Hogarth (19), scored his maiden century for the club on Monday against Danby, following that of team-mate Chris Knight two weeks ago.

The match was a semi-final cup tie in the Robin Holmes trophy, the only knockout competition for teams in the Esk Valley Evening League.

Fryup batted first and after a slow start, with the help of Ben's 106, Fryup amassed an excellent total of 170/4.

Danby started well and after half the overs, their score was level with Fryup's at the same stage.

But thanks to some tight bowling from Fryup, including 3-12 by 16-year-old Adam Bowes, it was clear Danby would not reach the total required.

Fryup will now play Goathland in the final at Castleton on Sunday.

Knight (19) notched up his maiden century for Fryup in an Eskdale League match against Grosmont recently.

He then hit another ton, blasting a whopping 173 in a record-breaking stand with Dave Bowes (86).
