Finn Morris’ first century for Whitby led the club to an emphatic victory over Great Ayton 2nds.

The opener made 105 from 110 balls to propel the home side to a mighty 246 all out in their North Yorkshire South Durham Division One clash at the Turnbull Ground.

Morris was backed up by 42 from Theo Clarke and useful runs later in the innings from Arron Leeman and Paul Buck, despite an impressive effort by Great Ayton’s Neil Pearson, who finished with 5-63 from 15 overs.

The total never looked in trouble and Whitby went on to win by 142 runs.

Whitby 2nds endured a torrid afternoon at Darlington RA in Division Two, slumping to defeat by 173 runs.

Stephen Crowther won the toss and put the home side into bat at Brinkburn Road, but the runs flowed throughout their 50 overs.

Darlington ended on 261-8, with six of their batsmen making valuable contrinutions. Callum Buckley top scored with 57, but Liam Dixon, Matthew Wheeler and number nine Jacob Chew all made it into the 40s.

All six Whitby bowlers had a wicket to their name, with Crowther (2-34) and Stephen Husband (2-40) the best performers.

After an opening stand of 30, Whitby’s reply went downhill fast and they were all out for 88 in the 33rd over.

Kai Morris top scored with 25 but the visitors had no answer to Darlington’s four-pronged attack of Jaedyn Bartosh-Short (3-12), John Cavanagh (3-35), Paul Robson (2-14) and Chew (2-19).
