County cap honour for Whitby cricketer
WHITBY'S Yorkshire CCC cricketer Adam Lyth says it was an honour to be handed his county cap at Scarborough's North Marine Road.
Lyth (22) – the leading run scorer in this year's LV County Championship – was handed his cap prior to day two of the Tykes' recent match against Hampshire.
It proved to be a decent day for the Whitby-born batsman as he hit 63 as Yorkshire declared on 322/9.
Lyth said: "To get my county cap in Scarborough is special because this is where I have grown up playing my cricket and have learnt so much.
"The reception from the supporters was excellent and it is something I will always remember.
"I managed to get a few runs too which is always pleasing.
"Adil Rashid came in for us at number seven and scored 76 and made a massive difference before we declared."
Yorkshire will play their Clydesdale Bank 40 semi-final at North Marine Road on Saturday 11 September after beating Northants on Tuesday night, with 10 out of 11 wins in the competition this season.
Headingley is unavailable due to England v Pakistan one-day international taking place there the following day.
