Andy Chilton in the Scarborough trial

WHITBY’S Andy Chilton had to call on all his British Championship experience to stay ahead of new MRS Sherco signing Tom Affleck at the start of the East Yorks Centre trials championships round at Harwood Dale on Sunday.

Chilton proved superb on the seemingly impossible first greasy drop and climb out over the massive rock slab on the first hazard, the only expert to nail the end cards first lap with a loss of two marks.

Outstanding rides on the numbers six and eight ensured the win from Affleck with defending East Yorks Champion, Scarborough’s Simon Kershaw, third.

More Scarborough talent came to the fore in the shape of Mark Taylor, who grabbed the intermediate win - just - on most cleans rule from Stockton’s Rob Carter, leaving siblings Elliot and Lewis Woodall to win Youth C and Youth novice and Zac and Claire Collinson to clean up in a tough Youth B and D class.

Colin Bailey from Egton Bridge did well to hang on for the win in Clubman A after a heavy tumble on the first but with nothing damaged, after that nervy start, he settled and held off a confident Matt Ackerly and Nigel Todd.

Adam West just edged the win in Clubman B from Brendan Todd due to his better ride on the first section.

Youth A winner Dan Peace showed maturity beyond his years, particularly in these conditions, matching the score of Affleck and recording unpenalised rides on five of the 12 hazards.

Scarborough DMC thank all who helped to run this event and the riders who gave up their ride to observe.
