WHITBY Community College student Beth Mead capped an incredible few days by following up a goal for England with an FA Cup hat-trick for her table-topping ladies’ team.

Beth (16) finished her week at an England ladies’ training camp by netting the only goal as the Three Lions under 17s beat Norway 1-0.

And she took her fine form into Sunday’s twice-postponed cup third round match, scoring her first treble of the season as her side, Sunderland, trounced Rotherham 8-0.

Sunderland took the lead after just 36 seconds without an opponent touching the ball, with Mead turning and shooting into the far corner.

The Black Cats increased their lead in the 19th minute as the ball was played out of defence and Kelly McDougall released Mead, who confidently beat the advancing keeper.

Sunderland, who are top of the FA Ladies’ Premier League National Division, refused to relent and Mead, who lives in Hinderwell, made it six, scoring from a rebound to complete her trio.

Her side went on to win 8-0 and travel to Cardiff in the next round.
