Another season starts for Hinderwell's Jack Howell
Another season has started for Hinderwell's Jack Howell on his Beta 125cc trials bike.
Last year, Jack spent most of his weekends competing in local trials with Scarborough, Guisborough, Eboracum and Hull clubs.
He was a member of the East Yorkshire Inter Centre youth team which travelled to Devon and they gained second place against 16 teams from every centre throughout Great Britain.
Jack also spent some time in the summer at demonstration events at Hinderwell Gala Week and Castleton Show, showing people what trials riding is all about.
After spending most of last year in training, preparing for the British Youth Nationals 2010, they are now under way.
The end of February saw the first round at Matlock in Derbyshire.
This was a tough trial due to the weather conditions, with many marks lost by all competitors from all around the country.
Jack started well, coming second after the first two laps, but unfortunately on the last lap, he was beaten into fourth place by just three marks. Nevertheless, this was an excellent start to his first year in youth A class.
The second round in March took Jack to Devon where torrential rain the days before meant very slippery conditions.
After a disappointing start, Jack settled in to regain his position in the second and third laps.
The top five positions were anybody's, with the conditions reflecting to marks dropped by all riders.
Unfortunately for Jack, he missed out on fourth position by just a single mark again, yet it was a strong performance against the country's best riders in his class.
At Low North Park last Sunday, Jack took part in the British Challenge Lusky Class A trials championship.
Jack earned a fourth, only missing the podium by one dab.
