SCARBOROUGH Athletic will be Whitby Town's first opponents of the coming season which cannot come soon enough for the Blues chairman Graham Manser, manager Harry Dunn and supporters.
At the annual general meeting last Friday, six friendlies were announced and it was the Scarborough clash at the Turnbull on Tuesday 21 July which caught the eye.
And those fixtures were soon followed up by draws from FA headquarters on Wednesday which saw Whitby drawn away at either Bridlington, Esh Winning, Shildon or Northallerton in the first qualifying round of the FA Cup.
The tie is due to be played on Saturday 12 September.
The Blues have a home draw in the first round of the FA Trophy against Warrington Town or Sheffield.
That tie is due to be played on Saturday 17 October.
Manager Harry Dunn can't wait to get back into the dugout and sees the first clash of the season as a chance to give some new talent run out as he prepares his squad for an assault on the Unibond Premier League title.
The squad had its first training session on Tuesday night with 26 players – old and new – getting stuck in after the summer break.
Boss Harry told the Whitby Gazette: "I was more than happy with the way things went.
"We had most of the squad from last season as well as two or three good lads from the U19s side.
"We also had five triallists including Alex Gildea and Ged Dalton."
Dalton scored the winner for Blyth Spartans against Bournemouth in last season's FA Cup where Harry's former club eventually went out to Premier League side Blackburn Rovers.
One new face who will definitely turn out at the Turnbull is former Chester-le-Street utility player Ibrahim Hassan who can play in defence or midfield.
Harry revealed he had been tracking him for some time and had wanted to take him to former club Blyth.
Harry said: "I'm very positive about the new season.
"I want to bring in a few new faces but we have some good players here already.
"I know the first against game Scarborough will be about local pride but it is also a chance to look at some other players in a competitive match.
"We already know what Tony Hackworth, Ashley Lyth, Tom Raw and Danny Brunskill can do – they are going to be big players for us this season.
"The Scarborough game and the other friendlies will also get the players' fitness levels up so we are ready for the start of the new season."
But one player who will not be turning out for the Blues this season is defender Richard Forster due to transport difficulties from his home near Sunderland.
And defender Danny Farthings appearances at the Turnbull could be few and far between.
He's told the manager he wants to sign for a lower league club to get back to fitness following an injury-plagued couple of years.
He may still be available for midweek matches.
And it's not just on the pitch where things look positive for the coming season.
Despite a poor season and tough financial times, the club finished with a £2,000 surplus.
With the revamped clubhouse beginning to pay dividends, gate receipts increased and it was agreed at the meeting that the admission price, as well as the cost of season tickets and programmes would remain the same.
Chairman Manser told the Gazette: "This year's AGM was very positive. We just want the season to get started now.
"We hope to get a few more players in before the start of the season.
"We are disappointed to hear about Danny Farthing but everyone at the club wishes him well."
