WHITBY Hockey Club has once again enjoyed a successful season.
Their training throughout the season has been productive, effective and varied from September to March.
Paul Evans, who has recently passed his Level II Hockey Coaching Award, has brought new ideas and enthusiasm to the club, running the senior section with Karen Sanderson assisting.
The junior section has thrived once again under the guidance of Kare
n Sanderson, Jo Braithwaite and Beth Grason, who is looking at a career in sport.
The benefits of playing on the Whitby and Esk Valley Astroturf site at Caedmon School has reaped excellent results.
More players have been fed into district and county selection with Caedmon and Eskdale School working closely with the club to ensure no talented players slip through the net.
The school/club partnership ensures continuity and retention within the hockey circuit.
The new social room and changing rooms have provided excellent, modern facilities for the home fixtures.
Whitby have had several successes throughout the year.
GIRLS SCARBOROUGH AND DISTRICT TEAM – Danni Braithwaite, Paige Beeforth and Beth Sanderson were all successful in selection and representation.
GIRLS COUNTY SQUAD – Beth Sanderson U14 and Paige Beeforth U14 both qualified and have played for the county this season.
NORTH OF ENGLAND – Beth Sanderson went through three six- hour selection processes and was chosen for the final selection at Blackpool in December.
Unfortunately she did not make the final 18 – 15 of which were from north west and three from north east.
GIRLS' COUNTY SQUAD – Kirsty Dixon U16 successfully selected and represented the county this season.
BOYS NORTH YORKSHIRE – Jack Parks U14 and Rikki Lawerence U16 have just been chosen in the final selection for the boys' North Yorkshire Squad – they will represent the county for the coming season.
The ladies' team entered a new league in the Durham and Cleveland area this season.
They finished a remarkable second in a very competitive and higher level league.
They won 14, drew two and lost two, finishing only three points behind Barnard Castle.
Nicola Kent was named player of the year by all clubs involved and was runner-up top goal-scorer for the season.
With such an eventful season Whitby Hockey Club will certainly be going into next season with a positive and promising attitude.
