A GREAT second half display helped a patched-up Harlequins side to victory over Leeds side Leos.
The Whitby side had so many cry-offs on the way over to Leeds, phone calls were made to students and family members to see if they could help the team out.
Quins managed to get two players which made them up to 15.
One was a student at Leeds Met,
Mark Halidu and the other was Steve Allen's younger brother Keith.
It was a warm day and the visitors had a very make shift team.
First team wingers Chris Smith and Pete Stentiford had to play in the back row.
Ollie Roberts came in to the centres with Pindar.
Halidu and Francis both played on the wings with skipper Jim Fountain at the back.
The game kicked off and started at a frenetic pace.
The home side scored first as the Quins pushed up and the opposition winger ran the length of the pitch to score. Quins hit back with good work from Richard Parkin who tidied up at the line-out.
Phil Stentiford and Steve Allen linked well and Roberts collected a long pass and his chip bounced kindly for Harry Pindar to score.
From the restart, the home side powered downfield and scored again from a driving maul.
Joe Quinn was having an excellent game at flanker, securing ball and being ever-present in the tackle areas.
He set up the ball and Pindar again scored from a switch move, side-stepping a couple of defenders to touch down.
The first half was close and the scoreline at the break 12-10.
The second half saw young stars Smith, Young, Francis and Halidu emerge with confidence but again, a defensive slip let the home side score two quick tries.
But Quins bounced back, scoring three tries in quick succession.
Firstly experienced Matt Russell crashed over from short range, back row Pete Stentiford collected the ball in midfield off Joe Quinn who, with turn of pace, blasted his way through a gap to score under the posts.
The back row combined again as Stentiford returned the favour and put Quinn in under the posts to make it 24-31.
A converted try by the home side in the last few minutes would have meant a draw but stern defending by Keith Allen, Smith prevented any score.
The Quins were caught out in the last play of the game but pressure from Roberts forced his opposite man to spill the ball and Pindar gathered and ran the length of the field to complete his hat-trick.
Phil Stentiford kicked three conversions.
A great performance by all, thanks to all players that helped out.
