GOLDSBOROUGH Football Club captured the Eskvale and Cleveland League title on Monday night with a thumping 7-3 win over derby rivals Staithes Athletic.
The village side cannot now be caught as they are 10 points clear of Lingdale Tavern in second, who have three fixtures remaining and can win only nine more points.
Goldsborough manager Chris Raine said his side's success has been based on tight defending and a hatful of goals, with top scorer Stuart Marsay having struck 48 – the highest in the league so far.
Goldsborough have won 25 of their 29 games, drawing two and suffering only two defeats.
One of these losses came at home to Tavern recently when a win would have landed 'Boro the title on the day. They also reached the semi-finals of the League Cup, throwing away a 3-1 lead over Redcar Rugby Club before losing 5-4 in a nail-biting extra-time tie, as well as making the last eight of the Northern Echo Cup.
On Monday night, Staithes twice took an early lead before Andy Dent's hat-trick plus further goals from John Dent and Neil Waterfield gave Goldsborough a 5-3 lead at the break.
Richard Hegarty's second half brace completed the scoring.
Mr Raine said five of the football team also play for Mulgrave Cricket Club and added both Mulgrave and Goldsborough are leaving the local sports field as champions before moving on to the new facilities in Lythe.
