WHITBY darts ace Rich Parkin is aiming for a crack at the BDO World Darts Championship, which is shown live on TV each year.
The BDO has produced such legendary winners over the years as Eric Bristow, Raymond van Barneveld and Ted "the Count" Hankey and is played in a razzmatazz atmosphere at Lakeside in Frimley Green, Surrey.
But first, Rich – who recently ran professional Tony Eccles close in a best-of-nine exhibition at the Stakesby Arms, losing 5-4 – will have to get through the Cleveland qualifiers on Sunday followed by the next round at Bridlington in September.
"If I play like I can, I know I can get through.
"It's my dream to play darts and hopefully, I can go on and play in the PDC World Darts with the likes of Phil Taylor," he said.
Rich is now appealing for sponsorship to help him join the International Darts Player Organisation, which will lead to membership of the BDO.
You can contact him on (07881) 865949 or email richie_parkin@hotmail.co.uk
He has also entered the British Open at Bridlington in September.
