The Blues are aiming to continue their impressive recent form which has yielded four wins and a draw from their last five league games, including Saturday's 3-0 success over strugglers Prescot Cables.
Whitby are likely to give a debut to 20-year-old striker Michael Rae, signed from Blue Square North Gateshead in midweek.
Rae is a former Hartlepool and Darlington trainee.
Town will also be hoping for returns from the experienced former Leeds star Mark Tinkler who twisted an ankle last week, as well as hamstring forwards Karl Charlton and Tommy Raw.
Laird, who started out last century sharing Prenton Park with neighbours Tranmere Rovers, are currently fourth from bottom in the Unibond Premier, picking up just their second win of the season, 3-2 on Tuesday night at Witton Albion.
Derek Ward's side are playing the highest level of football in their history after going up automatically in second place from the Unibond First Division South last season – the decision was controversial after champions Retford were denied promotion as their ground wasn't up to scratch.
However, this was the culmination of a mammoth run of success since 2006 when the Wirral club won the North West Counties second division, followed by the first division, and then promotion to the Unibond Premier, all in successive seasons.
But after a poor start this time, manager Ken McKenna stepped down, allowing Ward to take over. A supporters' bus leaves at 9am.
