ESKDALE School's athletics success continued at the Town v Country Championships staged at Huntington Stadium, York.
The team of boys and girls in years seven, eight and nine competed for the Whitby/ Ryedale schools against Scarborough/Filey.
Conditions were perfect for track and field and the school's team pulled off a string of victories, enabling Whitby/Ryedale to take a clean sweep of the year seven, eight, nine and years 10/11 boys and girls trophies.
Outstanding performances on the day were: Ryan Braithwaite, year nine boys, 1 800m, 2.18 secs, 2 long jump, 4.86m; Josh Weatherill, year nine boys, 2 high jump 1.50m; Emma Wilde, year nine girls, 2 shot putt, 7.25m; Delise Butler, year nine girls, 2 discus, 17.60m; Alison Marsay, year eight girls, 1 300m, 49.97 secs, 1 high jump, 1.40m (new district record, deposing five previous record holders in one jump); Abi Millward, year eight girls, 1 100m, 13.95 secs; Dani Braithwaite, year eight girls, 1 1500m, 5.20; year eight girls relay, 1 57.98 secs, Steph Knight, Dani Braithwaite, Alison Marsay, Abi Millward; Mike Thompson, year eight boys, 3 1500m, 5.28; Maria Mastrolonardo, year seven girls, 1 high jump, 1.20m, 3 800m 3.02; Beth Gray, year seven girls, 2 high jump, 1.15m; Sam Porter, year seven boys, 1 discus, 22.70m.
All athletes fought very hard in some extremely close competition and eventually came out on top.
PE teacher Andy Raw said: "The department was overwhelmed by the students' performances throughout the season.
"It is a credit to the students who have worked very hard to get to this stage and to go even further is tremendous."
A big thank you to Pete Lamb, secretary of the Scarborough District School Sports Association (SDSSA) and Claire McQuade for their efforts in organising the day.
