I fully support your Protect your Piers campaign.
The piers are a vital part of Whitby. I have been coming to Whitby since I was a child and regularly walk up and down the piers and I took my child to walk down the pier this summer.
I want him to be able to take his children to do the same thing.
If the west pier walkway is in such disrepair (it looked safe enough to me in the summer) then Scarborough Borough Council should have flagged this a long time ago and done something about it.
They must do something about it now and I ask them to put an announcement out explaining why they have allowed the pier to fall into disrepair and what they are planning to do to resolve this scandalous state of affairs.
It would be interesting to see how much money has been spent on Whitby, robin Hood’s Bay etc, in comparison to Scarborough – whilst a good place to visit Scarborough does not have the charm of Whitby and Bay.
