The Redcar District Branch of the MS Society held a collection in Whitby Town centre on Saturday and Sunday, 11 and 12 August to raise funds for its activities.
In addition, the group were also collecting in the Co-operative Store on New Quay Road on the Sunday and were amazed by the generosity of both local people and visitors in both locations.
“We had members collecting on both days, some in wheelchairs and scooters, and everyone was so kind and helpful” said group Chair Barbara Wilkinson.
“Not only did we manage to collect £835.13 to help us to continue the work we do to help people who are affected by this degenerative condition affecting the nervous system, but we were also able to spread more information about Multiple Sclerosis and meet several people who either had the condition themselves or knew someone who did, thus being able to put them in touch with their local MS Branch”.
The cash donated will help the group to continue to provide a weekly physiotherapy session for its members plus a new exercise class, which is due to start shortly. We also provide small grants to members with MS to help purchase equipment to help them in their daily lives.
