Having been a resident worker at the Moorlands Hotel for 30 years, I was appalled when I saw the proposed replacement plans for the site.
Moorlands, (which did have en-suite rooms, despite what was reported in the Whitby Gazette on Friday 28 October) was a much loved building by many because of its ethos, and has been sadly missed since its closure.
Understandably it did need a lot of money spent on it, and if that means demolishing and rebuilding so be it, but not with the proposed monstrosity, which is too high and not out of place in that vicinity.
Surely it ought to be with something more in keeping with the surrounding properties.
