Mine is great financial gain for locals
On one of my regular visits to Whitby last weekend I picked up the Whitby Gazette.
A letter from William Atkinson caught my eye regarding the possibility of mining for potash in the locality.
I have loved Whitby and the North Yorks Moors since camping near Staithes in my childhood scouting days.
I am now in my 70s and fortunate to have purchased a small flat at Ruswarp which I visit whenever possible.
If there is a possibility of bringing some financial gain to the locality and providing some employment to the area for the sake of what will probably be a very minor intrusion I cannot believe there is any hesitation.
If there was a referendum and I qualified to vote, it would certainly have my support.
Perhaps some of the financial gain could be used to provide a park and ride scheme - if ever a town needed it Whitby certainly does.
How the local residents have put up with the parking is unbelievable.
