Letter: Festival a huge success for Whitby

May I through your Voice of Whitby page thank the people from Whitby and surrounding areas for their terrific support during the recent Coastline Festival which headlined 10cc and The Real Thing, and was in aid of Whitby Town Football Club.

The event held at The Stables at Cross Butts proved to be a huge success and a memorable day for the town and club.

It was a big project that needed lots of support as these are difficult times for summer festivals in our area.

Many others organised by various organisations have fallen in the summer of 2016, via lack of ticket sales.

We were lucky to receive the support of so many people to make ours go so well. I would like to thank the Whitby Gazette for helping us make sure it was such a successful event through featuring the event in the paper ahead of the big day.

The Stables at Cross Butts, Whitby, proved to be a superb venue and promoters Dennis Hobson, Graeme Hinchliffe and John Morley could not have wished for a better response from the tickets buyers, support bands, and also the many sponsors that got involved.

The bands were excellent value with 10cc headlining after The Real Thing.

The legendary Graham Gouldman was instrumental in most of the pre-publicity for the event for my company, this enabled us to receive so much publicity and awareness for the day in the months leading to the show.

If we want to avoid a repeat of festivals being cancelled here in our region in 2017 we need to rely on bands and music stars to get heavily involved in helping to promote these events - Graham Gouldman through his huge input certainly proved how crucial that was this summer.

Once again a massive thanks to you all for making August 6 such a fantastic day in the glorious Whitby sunshine. I was also hosting the event and to look out from the stage and see so many happy people was a real thrill.

Finally, can I wish Whitby Town Football Club all the very best for the new season ahead. I have worked closely now with Whitby Town chairman Graham Manser for the past five months now, and I fully understand the time and effort Graham continues to put in to keep the club playing at the level it does.
