With the Magpie restaurant being in the news thanks to the Whitby Gazette, I was reminded of an incident many years ago.

We went for a meal with our small grandson who was unaware of the reputation of Magpie fish and chips.

‘May I have a boiled egg please?’ said Callum.

No problem. It came, complete with soldiers.

We think he is perhaps the only person to be served an egg at the Magpie ... what service!

This same grandson is now a top chef at a Knightsbridge restaurant and has since enjoyed the official fare at the Magpie many times.

Our very best wishes for a speedy return to normal service.
