A neighbour recently returned from a few days away in Whitby with a copy of the Gazette which I had not seen since its relaunch.
I must say the new look paper is packed with useful, community information which, of course, is what a local newspaper should be all about.
There seems to be plenty of everything, a wide range of news and sport, good quality pictures, features, school report, news and pictures from yesteryear, colourful ads etc - you name it, it’s all there.
The eye-catching pictures relating to the North York Moors Railway milestone celebrations are particularly impressive.
I have spent an interesting few hours thumbing through the paper and really enjoyed doing so. It is obvious that the team put in a great deal of effort.
The paper has a clean, focused look. Achieving this without wasting space is undoubtedly an art but you seem to have succeeded.
As someone who has worked in the newspaper industry for 49 years and knows only too well the challenges - and difficulties - we all face in an ever-changing world, I feel the Gazette team are worthy of a much-deserved pat on the back.
But there is no room for complacency. Keep up the good work and innovate, without losing sight of traditional standards.
The paper is without doubt value for money. Long may it flourish.
