It was most disappointing that there was no report in the Gazette about the activities of Whitby Lifeboat William Hillary when in London to take part in the Diamond Jubilee Royal Regatta.
I had hoped that one of your excellent reports would have gone south with them and then provided fascinating background stories about the preparations, and the crews’ reactions after taking part.
However the one eye-witness account came briefly on your letters page from two members of the public who had also photographed the William Hillary during the regatta.
Even if no reporter had been able to make the trip, surely space could have been given for interviews with Peter Thomson and the crew on their return.
I am sure many readers would have found it of interest when Whitby had been honoured by such an invitation to take part.
