If Whitby’s streets are amongst the cleanest in the country, a very small section must have been inspected.
Walking the pavements in this area it is necessary to keep one’s eyes focused downward in order to avoid dog mess, spittle and litter.
Dog mess has often been spread by people walking in the dark and by pram or childrens’ cycles or toy wheels. This is shown by regular spaced dashes.
I long ago learned not to walk along the inside of Church Street for a similar reason.
This is not to malign the regular street cleaner as he cannot be on the spot for 24 hours.
I am not alone in my observations.
